Sole F80 Review

If you’re considering buying a treadmill, the Sole F80 should be on your shortlist.

In our guide, we cover everything there is to know about this treadmill – and compare it with others – so you get the full picture.

If you don’t have time to read the entire guide, check out our quick verdict below.

Quick Verdict

At $1,699 at the time of writing, the Sole F80 exceeds what you should expect for the price.

With a generous running deck, powerful motor, and lifetime warranty on the frame, motor, and deck, the F80 provides everything you’ll need.

According to some customers, the 9.1″ monitor feels dated; however, you can now attach your tablet and connect to a range of apps, including Studio – Sole Fitness’s alternative to iFit.

We’ve taken account of the customer rating and combined it with our analysis to award the Sole F80 a Savvy Score of 9.4 out of 10.

This treadmill makes the grade as the Best Treadmill under $2,000.

What Customers Think of the Sole F80 Treadmill

Fitness Savvy looked online and discovered 466 customer reviews of the Sole F80 Treadmill. Overall, this treadmill scored 4.5 out of 5.

Users were pleased with the powerful 3.5 continuous horsepower motor, the sturdiness, and the heavy-duty construction.

PROS:
  • The large running area and heavy-duty design make this treadmill the perfect choice for taller and heavier individuals (over 6 feet tall, 350 lbs).
  • The powerful 3.5 CHP (continuous horsepower) motor makes for smooth and quiet operation. The high-power means that the motor does not overheat, which means greater durability.
  • One customer purchased this treadmill to prepare for mid-distance triathlons and rated this machine highly, praising the comfortable running deck, sturdiness, and quiet motor.
  • Excellent overall home treadmill quality and comparable to local gym commercial-grade models.

CONS:
  • Several reviewers said a big drawback was that it was difficult to set up and complained that the instructions were unclear.
  • Some users thought that the control panel felt dated and there was a lack of entertainment options.
  • It is a large machine, so it might not fit in some people’s designated areas.

About the Sole F80 Folding Treadmill

Rated as one of the best treadmills in its price range for running, walking, and training, the Sole F80 Treadmill is an industry-leading treadmill designed for regular use.

The lifetime motor warranty tells you all you need to know about the quality of this running machine. The powerful 3.5 CHP (continuous horsepower) motor, with a peak output of 5.0 HP, does not overheat, meaning it is more durable and will last much longer. Even at the top speed of 12 mph, with the incline set at 15%, the Sole F80 can support larger runners of up to 375 lbs (170 kgs).

With that said, we expected slightly more from this machine. When you look at the table below for the top 5 treadmills in this price range, you’ll notice that the F80 only placed third. The Proform Pro 5000 and Pro 9000 outperformed this machine with superior features, so they are our top recommendations.

No posts for this criteria.

Whisper Quiet Running Deck

The Sole F80 Treadmill deck measures 22″ by 60″ (59 x 152 cm) – a generous running surface – large enough for even the tallest users. The Whisper-Quiet design means that running on this machine is quiet and smooth. During testing, we confirmed that the machine is indeed quiet.

An independent study also found that this running deck design reduced impact by 40% compared with running on asphalt.

Safety Features

Keeping safe while using fitness equipment is essential. While weights and resistance equipment are typically more dangerous, the trusty treadmill can be deadly, too – literally.

The Sole F80 features a large “Stop” switch to hit if you need the machine to stop. Additionally, it locks safely in place when folded and not in use.

Entertainment Features

The integrated 3.0 sound system allows users to listen to their favorite tunes thanks to Bluetooth and MP3 connectivity.

Also, any device with a headphone jack can plug in to play through the powerful speakers. The F80 also includes a USB port, providing countless options to connect music-playing devices.

The integrated tablet holder allows users to watch television and movies while working out.

LCD Display Console

Featuring a user-friendly, vibrant, 9-inch backlit LCD, the Sole F80 displays critical info to help you easily monitor and track your workout progress. That said, from our experience, we can confirm what customers have said about the console feeling dated – especially so when you compare it with the fantastic workout options available with an iFit subscription on the ProForm Pro 9000 and Pro 5000

The display feeds back stats such as speed, time, incline, calories, distance traveled, pulse, and pace at all times. It also includes a quarter-mile track feature with peak and valley graphs. Rapid speed and incline buttons allow users to access different speed and incline levels quickly.

How Does the Sole F80 Compare with Other Treadmills?

The Sole F80 treadmill is regularly compared with the Sole F85 and the NordicTrack Commercial treadmills – 1750 & 2450.

Below is an image displaying the key stats and our Savvy Score for these treadmills.

Sole F80 vs F80, NordicTrack 1750, NordicTrack 2450

The Sole F80 is the best-rated treadmill of the bunch, with a Savvy Score of 9.4.

Next, we have gone into more detail about how each running machine compares to the Sole F80.

Sole F80 vs. NordicTrack 1750

When choosing the right treadmill for your workout needs, a common comparison is the NordicTrack 1750 vs. the Sole F80.

  • Overall User Rating: the Sole F80 has received 327 customer reviews and scored higher than the NordicTrack 1750 with a solid 4.5 out of 5 compared with 4 out of 5.
  • Running Deck: both decks are the same size at 22″ x 60″.
  • Motor: the motor on the Sole F80 is smaller (3.5 vs. 3.75).
  • Incline: both treadmills feature a 15% incline; however, the NordicTrack 1750 also includes a 3% decline.
  • Warranty: the Sole F80 has a far better warranty – lifetime on the motor, frame, and deck, while the 1750 only has 10 years frame cover, and their website does not state the motor warranty.
  • Max User Weight: The Sole F80 wins again with a superior maximum user capacity of 375 lbs vs. 300 lbs.
  • Screen Size: As usual in the screen department, NordicTrack wins this battle with a larger display of 14″ vs. 9″ for the F80.
  • Price: with a list price of $1,699 vs. $2,299, the Sole F80 is the cheaper treadmill by $600.

In conclusion, based on user reviews, features, and price, the Sole F80 is the better option.

NordicTrack champion their iFit subscription and screen size. However, the newer Sole F80 includes a tablet holder, and users can now subscribe to an iFit alternative – Studio.

At the time of writing, the Studio annual membership is $199.99 for an individual subscription vs. $180 for iFit.

Doing the math, even if you spent $580 on a tablet and the extra $20 on an annual subscription – you’d still end up paying the same price as the NordicTrack 1750.

Based on the numbers, the extra $600 for NordicTrack 1750 is not justified. A few hundred dollars, maybe – if you require a decline feature – otherwise, we struggle to understand how they reached this retail price.

Sole F80 vs. F85

Another common comparison is the Sole F85 vs. F80. As with our Sole F80 and NordicTrack 1750 comparison, we have compared the key features.

  • Overall User Rating: the Sole F80 scored higher from user reviews at 4.5 vs. 4.3 out of 5.
  • Running Deck: both running decks are the same size.
  • Motor: the 4.0 CHP F85 motor is more powerful than the F80.
  • Incline: both treadmills feature a 15% incline.
  • Warranty: the warranties offered are the same for both models.
  • Max User Weight: The Sole F80 wins again with a superior maximum user capacity of 375 lbs vs. 300 lbs.
  • Screen Size: As usual in the screen department, NordicTrack wins this battle with a larger display of 14″ vs. 9″ for the F80.
  • Price: At the time of writing, the F85 was $400 more expensive at $2,099.

The main difference between the models is the motor size, max user weight, and display. The Sole F85 boasts a larger display monitor and more entertainment options.

We also noticed the F85 is constructed using larger rollers at 2.75 inches vs. 2.5 inches.

Our take is this: unless you weigh over 375 lbs, there’s not much reason to spend $400 more.

Users seeking greater interactivity will likely attach a tablet and subscribe to Studio or a similar app, rendering the larger display redundant.

However, if the larger monitor and more powerful motor are important to you, opt for the Sole F85.

My Experience with the Sole F80 Treadmill

The Sole F80 Treadmill is a beast of a machine, and at 274 lbs requires at least two people to move it and set it up.

Setting up the F80 was trickier than needed due to poor instructions. We’re used to setting up and testing treadmills, so we found our way around without issue.  However, we understand how some people might grow frustrated while assembling.

For these reasons, professional installation and setup are advised if you’re in doubt.

The running deck was more than big enough for me, but I’m only 5′ 8″. With that said, 22″ x 60″ is almost as big as they come, making this deck suitable for the taller runners out there.

If a large deck is essential, check out NordicTrack’s X32i – it measures 22″ x 65″!

Like other Sole treadmills we’ve tested, changing speed and incline feels slower and more sluggish than other brands. As we’ve previously said in our Sole F85 review, we believe this is a design feature to preserve the motor’s life. This also contributes to a quieter motor which is welcome.

We were previously critical of Sole Fitness’s interactivity options. While we’re still unhappy, they have made improvements in 2022.

The newer F80 treadmills include a tablet holder. You can now attach your device and connect to apps such as Studio. Studio is similar to iFit; however, your trainer cannot automatically adjust settings such as speed and incline because it is not integrated with the machine.

Studio allows users to participate in thousands of classes, challenge users to appear on the global leaderboard, and track progress.

We feel Sole Fitness will keep improving this area and expect newer models to include integrated consoles. This is essential for Sole Fitness to remain competitive. It should now be easier, given that NordicTrack and ProForm have recently hiked their prices considerably – so a slight price increase won’t hurt competitiveness.
